Human Neuroscience at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and Georgia State University is a summer research program supported by the National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. The program gives you the opportunity to gain knowledge and hands experience with human neuroscience techniques such as electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). You will also perform exciting research in the laboratories of Georgia Tech or Georgia State faculty mentors. You will also learn about neuroscience careers and tips for succeeding in graduate and medical school. We encourage applications from undergraduate students who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States who attend universities without access to human neuroscience equipment like EEG and fMRI. The research areas of the faculty mentors are organized around three core neuroscience themes:
In this REU program, you will live on Georgia Tech’s campus for 10 weeks. You will spend your time in educational workshops centered around neuroscience research and neuroscience education and working in a faculty laboratory on a project you develop with your faculty mentor prior to the start of the program. You will present the results of this research at a symposium with participants from other REU programs on campus. You will receive a stipend of $6000 for the summer.
All undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents may apply. Ideal candidates are students entering their junior or senior year who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in a neuroscience related field, who currently attend a university without access to neuroscience research equipment like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or electroencephalography (EEG), who identify as part of an under-represented minority group, and/or women.
